September Samplings
Blasting off to a great year!!
Language Arts: During the month of September, we will be working on our first big book in Open Court Reading, Off to School. We will be learning about naming words (nouns), listening for first and last sounds, writing and recognizing letters a-m, rhyming words, and print and book awareness. Math: We will be utilizing several of our math manipulatives: teddy bear counters, linking cubes, and pattern blocks. We will also be making patterns, graphing, and counting up to ten. Science: Our core knowledge unit for September is Plants, and their needs. We will be learning the parts of plants, their uses, and the many different ways we rely of plants to keep us healthy and provide the nutrition we need.
Geography: We will be studying the seven continents during the year. In September we will be learning about North America, including our city and state, and the oceans surrounding the continent. Art: We will be beginning with the studies of lines and shapes, primary and secondary colors, and working on projects for our bulletin boards. Music: We always enjoy singing seasonal songs, learning about the different instruments, recognizing different beats, etc. Spanish: We have a new Spanish teacher this year, Miss Ann. We are looking forward to all the spanish words we will learn. Important dates for September: Sept. 6--Labor day, no classes
