*Parents, just a reminder that we have a morning routine that requires the students to focus and the teachers to be available to help. Please remember to let your child enter the classroom by themselves.  Our morning routine gets the students ready to begin a fun day filled with lots of learning. Thanks for understanding. :)

Remember that students need to be reading a chapter book nightly.  Parents, please sit down and let your child read aloud with you.  Not only does this help them with their comprehension skills, it allows them to see how fun reading can be when expression is added to the text.

Please make sure that your child is filling out the Reading Log nightly. I prefer that the students  fill it out and have the parent initial that it was completed. If you could make a note on the log once a book is completed at home, I will make sure that your child takes an AR test over it the following day.
Once we return from Christmas break, your child will be required to dig deeper into their reading at home each night. Along with filling out the basic reading log, your child will have 2-3 questions to answer about their nightly reading. These questions will be kept in their Reading Log folders.
The questions will relate to making connections, asking questions, digging deeper with their thoughts and feelings about the text, describing events in the story, making predictions, and understanding the development of characters. This encourages your child to think deeply about the story instead of just skimming the words.

Please sign and check your child's planner and homework nightly.
