Math and Science

Welcome to my class. The year is already starting to fly by. We have started our second quarter. Check out the link to our photo album on the left side of the page!

Fourth graders will be finishing up their unit on Meteorology on November 7. We  made thermometers and tested them in class. We were lucky to have a very cold day to test them outside too!

Fifth graders will return to science the week of November 10. We will start our unit on Cells.

In all of our classes we are working on becoming more independent. Parents, please do not walk your children to class. We encourage you to check your child's planner each night to make sure he or she has completed all work for the day.

Fourth graders will go to Mrs. Lockrow for Social Studies and art and to Mrs. Gallagher for reading and English.

All fifth graders come to me for science, and some fifth graders come to me for math.

The fourth and fifth grade will alternate between science and social studies. Each unit will be about 3 weeks long.
What to bring:
  • pencil
  • pen
  • planner
  • math book
  • science handouts/magazines or science book
  • binder for my class (with dividers)

Get organized early! It will help you throughout the whole year.

 What to expect:

Math- 4th and 5th: We will complete about one lesson per day. As the material gets harder in the second semester we will slow down and spend more time on new concepts. Expect math homework every night. You will have time in class to work and to get help from me. Tests are after the first 10 lessons, and then after every 5 lessons after that. For example, we will have a test after completing lesson 10, 15, 20, 25, etc.

Science-

4th:We will use the textbook as well as other sources to cover the Core Knowledge curriculum. Expect some fun hands-on activities and projects.

5th:Science is a little different because we don't have a text book. I will give notes in class and handouts to make sure that you have all the information you need. We also use Kids Discover magazines. These magazines are on specific topics related to the curriculum. They are a lot of fun to read and give a lot of great information. We will also have projects and hands on learning experiences in science class.
