Letter to Parents
Welcome to the Rivers wing!
Our schedule
Your child comes to my class for math, science, and social studies. We will alternate science and social studies throughout the year. All of our academic classes meet before lunch. Our afternoons are filled with Spanish, Library, Art, Reading Buddies, PE, Music, and Computer. We stay VERY busy!
Go Healthy, Go Green! This year we are continuing our effort to “Go Healthy, Go Green!”. We are asking parents to send healthy snacks for birthday celebrations and other holiday parties. Instead of cakes and cookies, you could send muffins or fruit to celebrate a birthday. Healthy snacks will help our students to be better learners. We are also continuing our 20 minute snack and walk break in the mornings. This gives the 4th and 5th graders a chance to get outside in the middle of their academic classes and get some fresh air.
Behavior and Responsibility
We expect all students to show respect for their teachers, classmates, and school. In our wing, we have implemented a system to ensure that all students remain responsible for their actions. Students start the week with a “100” behavior/responsibility grade. Late assignments, not being prepared for class, or any misbehavior will result in a check. Each check takes 5 points off of their grade. At the end of the week, their behavior grade will be written in the Friday folder. We ask that you sign and return the Friday folder on Monday. Any class work that is not finished in class becomes homework. If a student forgets an assignment, she will be asked to work during recess to get caught up. This is to ensure that she doesn’t fall farther behind. **We ask that you let your child complete homework assignments and projects on their own. Once completed, you can check their work and help with any mistakes.
I look forward to a great year teaching your child. If you ever have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. Email is the best way to reach me.
Sincerely,
Hannah Maounis
