A report from the St. Peter’s Parent and Teacher Association
May 2010

“Volunteers do not necessarily have time; they just have the heart.” –Elizabeth Andrew

This school year has been a very exciting and productive one for the St. Peter’s Parents and Teachers Association (SPPAT).  With everyone’s gifts of time, talent and treasure, the school raised $81,000 with our three major fundraising events.  Without your outstanding effort as parent volunteers and supporters, this would have never been possible.  Just as the quote says above, our volunteers truly are the heart of our school.

  • After registration, SPPAT gave each classroom teacher $100 to replenish supplies or use as they wish to get ready for the students.
  • Magazine Sale began in full swing in September, and we reached our goal of $20,000.  Thanks again to our wonderful chairs Hope Freytag and Jennifer Lockwood and co-chairs Christy Wilson (Riley’s mom) and Christy Wilson (Kailey’s mom), and their great committee.
  • Auction was a BLAST! The school’s biggest fundraiser netted $41,000 with the tremendous effort of chairs Rana Hill and Tracy Tindall and their incredible committee.  This group knows how to throw a party and raise lots of money doing it.
  • The Golf Tournament made a big change this year by moving to The Bear Trace.  What a great call!  A beautiful day, a beautiful course, deer and wild turkeys, and $20,000 for the school.  Who could ask for more?  We all had a great time thanks to the hard work of chairs Andria Barnett, Jaime Melton and Krystye Dalton and co-chair Allison Creasey, and a tireless committee, golfers included!
  • Teacher Appreciation included chairs Becca Levin and Margarita Renegar and co-chair Jill Ryan, who organized two lovely luncheons for the faculty and weekly treats.  SPPAT funds were used for appreciation gifts, coffee/supplies, and year-end bonuses for teachers.  These ladies and their committee did a great job of showing our wonderful staff how much we love and appreciate all that they do.
  • New this year was our After School Sports committee and we had great chairs to start it up with Ellen Behrends and Beth White.  They helped to organize and staff our Cross Country, Track, Basketball, and Soccer Teams.  SPPAT funds were used to purchase medals for all participants.  A huge thank you goes to parents Bart Whalen and Bill Winchester (soccer) and Allyson and Shawn Arrington (basketball) for their patience and endless enthusiasm in coaching our children.  Thank you, Thank you!!
  • SPPAT funds were also used to support these projects: Gardening (front entrance and Emily’s Garden), Field Day, the Mentor Program to welcome our new families, Graduation, Grandparent’s Day, Work Day, After School Sports, Open House, a special year-end Volunteer Appreciation dinner, physical improvements (repairing water fountains, etc.) and a special $350 donation to the library in honor of the 35 families with 100+ hours.
  • Most recently, SPPAT provided a breakfast for the SAIS/SACS Re-Accreditation team and recognized Mrs. Adkins and Ms. Ceacy’s retirement with a $250 donation in each of their names to benefit the library.  We will truly miss these wonderful ladies and wish them much happiness in their retirement.

Last summer, the SPPAT executive committee was asked to commit to support the operating budget for the 2009-2010 school year with $75,000.  Without YOUR hard work, this could never be possible.  Thanks to all of you, we were able to fulfill that pledge.  The SPPAT Executive Committee truly appreciates the support you have all given to the school and our children by donating your time, talent and treasure.  Have a safe and relaxing summer with your family.  We look forward to getting back to work this fall.

Warmest Regards,

The SPPAT Executive Committee

Angie Solis, President
