“SPPAT CHAT”

A report from the St. Peter’s Parent and Teacher Association, December 2008

If you’ve toured the school recently, you will have noticed many new enhancements to the school’s classrooms and facility.  The receptionist’s desk is now in place in the front lobby, and the installation of the school zone lights is scheduled to be completed in January.  Additionally, because of the generous contributions and hard work of our school’s parents, our teachers and children have been the recipients of much needed items that are enhancing the learning experience at our school.

Prior to the end of school last spring, the teachers were asked to compile a wish list of items to use in their classrooms. Over the summer months, members of the SPPAT Executive Committee coordinated the ordering, delivery and installation of items in the following program areas, totaling nearly $50,000 in improvements for the school:

  • Computer, Spanish and Music: 17 Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing upgrades and 17 headphones, two sets of choral risers and upgrades to the Rosetta Stone Spanish Language Level 1 and Level 2
  • Physical Education: Team Dodgebowl, NoPeekNet, Catch-N-Release, Flingbowl, Rainbow Hop-Along activities
  • After Care Program: Refrigerator for Carson Hall
  • Library: Audio-visual cart and Accelerated Reader software upgrade
  • Classrooms: New area rugs for all classrooms, digital camera, two audio-visual stands, computer tables, educational games, math manipulatives, four LCD computer monitors, four CD players and headphones, a laptop computer for podcasting, 16 student desks, 16 student chairs, a rolling podium, additional chalkboards and bulletin boards, 30 Expo learning boards, color laser printer, “rain gutters” for book shelving system, weather maps, talking globes, art supplies, 3-way adjustable art easel, rocking reading chairs, specialty science books, the wiring for computer room LCD projector, athletic uniforms, an interactive smartboard, Core Knowledge art prints, storage cabinets and shelving
  • General Use: Drinking fountains for track area and playground, mini blinds, diaper changing station
  • Sound System for Cafeteria: Purchased and installed a 10 speaker sound system with amplifier, digital system processor, wall mounted and portable equipment racks, wireless microphone headsets and 2 microphones with stands.  Now we can hear our children when they perform on stage!

This year, SPPAT has committed an additional $55,000 to assist in funding the 2008 - 2009 school operating budget.  The SPPAT executive committee wishes to extend a sincere thank you to all of our dedicated parents for volunteering their time, talent and treasure to raise the funds that can then be used to enhance the educational experience of our children. Our teachers and staff are a wonderful, dedicated group that appreciates all of your support.
